Francesc Estivill (1954) - Hic et Nunc

Francesc Estivill (1954) is a Catalan artist. Self-taught, although he has pursued Fine Arts studies at “Sant Jordi” in Barcelona and at the “Escuela Massana,” in printmaking with Manolo Gómez and lithography with Prim Fullà.

This work is a photogravure and aquatint of 40 x 40 cm on Arches paper sized 67 x 60 cm.

The windowless room is a metaphor for the world that hides behind your computer's monitor. You are the trapped fly; the stains on the wall, the organic memory, remind you that you are matter, no matter how much you chase the representation of the world that you don't even know exists beyond the walls of your stay-monitor. Green is the color of the unhealthy depths of a swamp of stagnant water. The overprinted word reminds you that there is destination, or misfortune, or simply that there is none.
