Description from the seller

The 'Akuaba' doll of the Ashanti from Ghana
The doll head is carved very finely from wood, painted black with lacquer finish, and the head, neck, and pedestal are adorned with multicolored, very fine glass bead strands. Beautiful patina from use— wear on the raised areas.
Such dolls served within traditional Ashanti culture as symbols of fertility and beauty. They expressed the hope for healthy, beautiful children and were carried on the backs of women and ritually cared for.
38 cm high, 14.5 cm wide, 5 cm deep
262 g.

I offer tribal art from all over Africa. It is part of my private collection. The collection began in 1980 and now consists of many objects. Objects that were purchased during work in Africa but also collected from tropical medicine doctors, major collectors, galleries in Brussels and Paris, and auction houses across Europe. Since I want to downsize, I am offering my collection to other enthusiasts.
A fast, safe, and neat delivery of the items is guaranteed.
