A French Art Nouveau pendant light from circa 1900–1910, with a blown marbled glass bowl on a wrought iron frame, 76 cm high and 35 cm in diameter, one fitting and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Rare and elegant French Art Nouveau pendant, made around 1905–1915, featuring a blown, cloudy marbled glass bowl, acid-signed 'G. V. de Croismare'.
The basin features a remarkable marble and cloudy decoration in warm, luminous tones, typical of French Art Nouveau productions from the early 20th century. The diffusion of light is soft and enveloping, highlighting the depth and richness of the glass.
It is associated with a finely worked wrought iron support, decorated with stylized vegetal motifs. The flowing, organic lines of the frame are fully aligned with the naturalist vocabulary of French Art Nouveau.
The acid signature 'G. V. de Croismare,' clearly visible on the glass, serves as a mark of authenticity and gives this suspension particular interest for collectors of signed Art Nouveau lighting fixtures.
Historical context
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Croismare Glassworks actively participated in the revival of French decorative arts, developing a production of artistic glassware and Art Nouveau lighting fixtures characterized by the use of blown marbled and cloudy glasses and a particular focus on the diffusion of light.
G. V. de Croismare, a glassmaker active during this period, produces some of these pieces today sought after for their decorative quality and authenticity.
The glassworks will be subsequently taken over by the Muller brothers, major glassmakers based in Lunéville, but works signed 'G. V. de Croismare', such as the present light fixture, belong to the original production prior to this takeover, independent of Muller Frères.
This suspension thus illustrates a pivotal moment in French Art Nouveau, between regional artisanal tradition and the rise of major artistic manufacturers in the early 20th century.
