Description from the seller
The Nintendo DS Lite is a compact, portable gaming console (218 grams) with two 7.6 cm LCD screens, one of which is a touch screen. It features brighter screens (4 brightness levels), an ARM9 processor (67 MHz), 4 MB of RAM, a built-in microphone, Wi‑Fi for multiplayer, and compatibility with both DS and Game Boy Advance games.
The black copy offered here – complete and in its original packaging – is in new condition. Additionally, five original games are included. (See photos.)
A timeless handheld
The Nintendo DS was revolutionary and also quirky at its release in 2004. The use of two screens posed questions for developers, but it also offered many opportunities. Creative minds have gratefully taken advantage of this well-executed feature, as later shown by the many innovative games that appeared. In the beginning, the quirky DS didn’t quite land with the public, and critics found the first edition of the DS 'log', 'not elegant' and 'a bit odd'. Only after a facelift, which came to be called the Nintendo DS Lite, did the handheld take off with the broad public.
The Nintendo DS Lite got smaller, smaller and thinner. Compared with the first generation, this version is indeed elegant, and it fits in your pocket.
Where the DS Lite made its biggest impact was the fact that this version was 'backwards compatible'. There is a slot on the bottom of the device where you can play GBA games. Admittedly, the GBA was still available, but gamers now had an extra reason to buy a DS Lite. A golden move by Nintendo.
But the DS Lite was more than just a gaming device. It also served as a platform for social interaction, thanks to features such as wireless multiplayer capabilities. Players could play locally with friends or connect via Wi‑Fi to compete against gamers around the world. These social elements added an extra layer of fun to the overall experience of playing on the DS Lite. Moreover, the DS Lite offered access to a range of non‑gaming features, including a web browser and apps for music and photos. Although these features were not as advanced as those of smartphones, they still added practical versatility to the device, making it more than just a gaming handheld.
The popularity of the DS Lite extended to players of all ages, from young children to adults seeking a nostalgic gaming experience. The DS Lite will go down in history as one of the most successful handhelds of all time, and there is plenty to say about that. Even today, this device—with about 1500 games—remains highly loved by its fans.
