Description from the seller
Fascinating French advertising poster for Rouxel & Dubois (Paris), a historic house associated with the manufacture and sale of bicycles. The work depicts two cyclists on a tandem bicycle taking part in a nighttime race, suspended in a striking, almost dreamlike setting, with the moon and the planets in the background.
The dynamic composition, the strong color contrast, and the red vertical lettering closely echo the graphic language of cycling posters from the late 19th century and the very early 20th century, a period when the bicycle symbolized modernity, progress, and the spirit of sport.
This is a later edition, probably from the Seventies.
The author is not indicated: this is anonymous French advertising graphics, produced in the style of the great poster designers of the era, with clear references to the fin-de-siècle illustrative tradition. The poster is inspired by a very well-known historical subject and today rare in its original first edition, while this version constitutes a decorative reprint intended for the collecting and interior-design market.
Dimensions 46 x 66 cm
