Authentic Bizen ware Hana-ire flower vase by Katsu (勝), a Showa-period unglazed ceramic in the Bizen-yaki tradition, 17 cm wide, 17 cm high and 17 cm deep, with natural ash and fire marks, supplied with the original signed wooden tomobako box and in good condition with signs of aging.
Description from the seller
This is an authentic Bizen ware flower vase (Hana-ire) by the artist Katsu (勝), a traditional Japanese ceramic artist working in the renowned Bizen-yaki tradition. The vase features a well-balanced spherical form with a narrow mouth, making it ideal for ikebana and sculptural floral arrangements.
The surface displays classic Bizen characteristics, including natural ash deposits (goma), fire marks, and subtle kiln effects that create rich earthy tones ranging from reddish-brown to golden ash textures. These effects are achieved solely through high-temperature wood-fired kiln firing, without glaze, making each piece truly one of a kind.
The vase comes with its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako), which adds to its authenticity, provenance, and collectible value. This piece is suitable both as a functional flower vase and as a standalone art object for Japanese interior or wabi-sabi inspired spaces.
