Biography of Pedro Mozos Martinez
A self-taught painter by training, Mozos attended official schools as a free student. In 1935 he obtained the Conde de Cartagena pension, with which he would travel through Italy, France, and Morocco. He was also awarded a scholarship in 1958, this time by the Juan March Foundation in Barcelona, to broaden his studies in Paris and Rome. He held his first solo exhibition at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid at just seventeen (1933), under the patronage of the painter Zuloaga. Years later, in 1942, he would again exhibit in the Circulo’s rooms. Throughout his career, Mozos carried out numerous solo exhibitions across Spain, in notable venues in Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, etc. In 1954 he also held a comprehensive retrospective at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Madrid. He also participated in important group shows in London, Liverpool, Edinburgh, and Paris, and competed in several editions of the National Fine Arts Exhibition between 1934 and 1957. He was awarded the Third Medal in 1943, the Second in 1948 and 1952, and the First in 1954 and 1957. He also took part in the I Salon of the Eleven, held in Madrid in 1943, and in biennials such as Venice (1950 and 1954), or the Hispano-American Art Exhibition in Madrid in 1951, where he was distinguished with the Lepanto prize. In 1975 he was awarded the Gold Medal by the Circulo de Bellas Artes of Madrid. He also pursued artistic teaching, serving as a professor at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades in Madrid since 1950, and as Professor of Drawing at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University from 1964 until his death. Years after his death, he would be honored with memorials such as the retrospective exhibition held at the Conde Duque Cultural Center in 1991, or the homage at the Instituto Egipcio de Estudios Islámicos y Fundación Concha Márquez in Madrid in 2000. Today Pedro Mozos is represented in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Academia de San Fernando, the Fine Arts Museums in Bilbao, Málaga, Álava, and Pontevedra, the Madrid Bar Association, the Artistic Fund of the Paradores de Turismo de España, and the Diputación de Valencia."} } }# would fix trailing braces?
