Antonio Servaccio Mansini was an active painter during the 20th century, specializing mainly in landscapes and urban scenes of a Mediterranean character. His work is characterized by loose and expressive brushwork, a luminous palette, and a special interest in everyday life and popular architecture, integrating Post-Impressionist influences with a personal, atmospheric vision of the surroundings.
The composition depicts an everyday scene in a Mediterranean-style coastal town square. In the foreground stand vernacular buildings with simple volumes and whitewashed walls, framing a street that visually leads toward the sea. The presence of small human figures provides scale and dynamism to the scene, reinforcing the work's costumbrista, or genre-scene, character. In the background, the landscape opens to the shoreline, with the blue of the sea contrasting with the ochre and earthy tones of the ground and the buildings. The brushwork is loose and gestural, with a vibrant treatment of light and color characteristic of post-impressionist language, conveying a luminous and serene atmosphere.
The piece features a carved and gilded wooden frame in a classical style, with rich vegetal ornament and stepped moldings. The frame enhances the painting, providing presence and visual balance to the overall composition.
The frame comes as a gift. It may be damaged during transport even if it is properly packaged.
The work shows minor flaws and restorations due to its age.
