This is a remarkable Seto-yaki Raku-fired Matcha tea bowl (chawan) crafted by esteemed Japanese ceramic artist Masahiro Kawamura, a representative figure in Seto ware ceramics. Born in 1940 in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, Kawamura is known for his dedication to traditional techniques and refined aesthetic sense. This particular piece showcases the classic Hekisai style, with a rustic yet elegant glaze pattern and textured surface achieved through meticulous firing techniques.
The bowl was purchased but never used, having been displayed on a shelf. Its condition remains excellent, making it a perfect choice for both tea ceremony use and display.
The piece comes complete with its original kiribako (paulownia wood box), shifuku (silk pouch), and certificate, reflecting its authenticity and collectible value.
