Pierre Lacroux was born in Montpellier in 1909. He studied English while taking classes at the School of Fine Arts in his city. He then attended André Lhote's workshop.
In 1936, he settled in Privas (Ardèche), where he remained until his death in 1993. He was an English professor and, at the same time, a prolific painter. He did not wish to sell his works, but he regularly exhibited them in Privas and in Lyon.
Influenced by the structures and color schemes of Cubism and Fauvism, and by artists such as Matisse or Derain, his style will continue to evolve, up to abstraction. Lacroix draws his energy and inspiration from the landscapes of southern France.
The works of Pierre Lacroix are notably exhibited at the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, and have been the subject of a number of public sales. His paintings are nonetheless far rarer than his gouaches.
