Description from the seller
Pepper mill in repoussé silver – Netherlands – year 1927
Weight: 128 g
Dimensions: 6 x 5 x 8 cm
Material: Silver (tested by acid test) and metallic elements in the internal mechanism.
Status: Proper functioning
Description
Exceptional antique pepper mill made of embossed silver, with very rich and deeply worked decoration. The globular body features detailed relief with vegetal motifs, acanthus leaves, griffins, and a typical Dutch tradition scene.
The curved crank retains its original knob, and the internal mechanism works perfectly, which is quite uncommon in pieces nearly a century old.
Origin and Dating
The visible contrasts at the top allow for precise confirmation of their Dutch origin (the Netherlands).
The last mark — the letter 'R' inside an oval — corresponds to the official date mark of Dutch silver for the year 1927, which allows for precise chronological identification of the piece.
Therefore
Country of origin: Netherlands
Exact year of manufacture: 1927
Late historicism style with traditional Dutch decorative elements.
State
Overall in very good condition, with a natural patina appropriate for its age. The mechanism is operational and shows no significant defects or dents.
