Antique duck-hunting decoy – wooden sculpture – Early 20th century
Description
Very fine antique hunting decoy depicting a male mallard, hand-carved from solid wood and painted in a naturalistic style.
This decoy was intended to be used on the water to attract wild ducks during traditional hunting.
The sculpture is distinguished by:
a realistic and balanced silhouette, typical of functional decoys.
a careful treatment of volumes and feathers.
a natural floating posture, with the tail slightly raised
an authentic antique patina, the result of real use and the passage of time.
This is a beautiful example of hunting-themed folk art, blending practicality with aesthetic quality.
