Steven Rooks (born August 7, 1960) is one of the most emblematic Dutch cyclists of the 1980s, mainly remembered for his great ability as a climber.
Its most notable milestones include:
Tour de France 1988: It was his best year in the Grande Boucle. He finished second in the general classification, only behind Pedro Delgado. He won the queen stage on Alpe d'Huez and took the mountains jersey (red polka dots).
Classics: He demonstrated his versatility by winning monuments and one-day races, such as Liège–Bastogne–Liège (1983), the Amstel Gold Race (1986), and the Zürich Championship (1988).
Championships: He was the runner-up at the Road World Championships in 1991 and he was a two-time national champion of the Netherlands (1991 and 1994).
Teams: He rode for legendary outfits such as Panasonic, PDM and Festina.
