Description from the seller
Akai 4000DS Mk II – Rare Black Version – In very good condition – Complete with dust cover and documentation
Description:
Up for auction: a legendary Akai 4000DS Mk II reel-to-reel tape recorder in the highly sought-after black finish. This model is known for its solid construction and reliable operation.
The device is in very good technical and optical condition. The recorder has been in my possession for the past 5 years and has been used only sporadically. The unit has remained completely original.
Technical condition:
The tape recorder is fully functional. Prior to this auction, the device was subjected to extensive testing for more than two hours, covering both recording and playback:
Plays and records well at both speeds (9.5 and 19 cm/s).
Rinses strongly in both directions.
The heads (Ferrite Head) are professionally cleaned and demagnetized before shipment.
The original capstan sleeve (tule) for speed adjustment is present and functions properly.
To my own ears, the machine records very nicely.
Optical state:
Considering its age, the recorder looks excellent. There are a few minor signs of wear (see photos), but aside from that the machine is almost in 'cabinet-state'. The black front panel gives the device a very elegant appearance.
Included in the set (Complete Collector's Set):
Original plastic dust cap (Dust Cover): Note: the dust cap has a crack, as clearly visible in the attached photos.
Original warranty card: A unique historical document that accompanies this specific item.
Original user manual: In English, French and German.
Extra small manual: In Dutch.
Please note: The spools shown in the photos are for illustration purposes and are not part of the auction.
Specifications
System: 4-track, 2-channel, stereo/mono system
Heads: 1 x play, 1 x record, 1 x erase (Ferrite Heads)
Weight: approx. 13 kg (without packaging)
A wonderful opportunity for the vintage audio enthusiast to snag a complete and genuine copy of this Akai classic.
