Early 20th century silver cigarette case with gilt and enamelled decorations
Rectangular silver cigarette case, early 20th century, likely of Central European manufacture.
The exterior is finely decorated with alternating ribbed and polished bands, enriched with applied ornamental motifs, including a horseshoe, a chain with a key-shaped element, and a small shield with red enamel decoration. The applied elements are executed in gilt silver, creating an elegant contrast with the silver ground.
The interior is gilded, as customary for silver cigarette cases of this period, and bears maker’s and silver standard marks, including the stamped mark “KIM”, attributable to a workshop or silversmith’s mark. The additional punch indicates a silver alloy, likely 800 standard.
