Blue-tinted crystal triangular dish, model Patelle, by Val Saint Lambert, Belgium (Wallonie), 16.3 cm wide, 5 cm high, 875 g, dating to the 1950s–1960s, in good condition with light interior wear.
Description from the seller
Small triangular crystal dish, model « Patelle », produced by Cristalleries du Val Saint Lambert around the 1960s. This piece is linked to post-war creations, a period during which the glassworks explored free and organic forms, while maintaining a high level of technical mastery of crystal. The model « Patelle » is distinguished by its fluid and asymmetrical design, characteristic of the decorative vocabulary of the 1950s–1960s, where function is combined with an affirmed sculptural exploration.
The dish adopts a triangular shape with rounded corners, evoking a shell or a marine limpet. The crystal, a luminous blue with deeper hues in its thickness, is animated by a swirling motion that begins at the center and expands toward the edges. The internal lines seem carved by a wave, creating a dynamic interplay of curves and solid areas that catches the light from different angles. The rim, slightly raised and irregular, reinforces this impression of natural movement. The bottom is signed at the center 'Val St Lambert', a discreet yet clear engraving, perfectly integrated into the composition.
The set is in good overall condition. We note visible signs of use inside the cut, in the form of superficial marks, consistent with careful domestic use. No cracks or chips to report, and the crystal structure remains perfectly sound, preserving all its transparency and brilliance.
In the 1960s, Val Saint Lambert continued its international influence by adapting its historic know-how to contemporary tastes. After Art Deco and the large Luxval series, the Belgian manufacturer turned toward freer forms, sometimes inspired by nature and modern design, while maintaining a high level of quality. The “Patelle” model well illustrates this transitional period, where crystal-making tradition meets the organic and expressive aesthetics of the mid-20th century.
The dimensions are:
- Height: 5 centimeters,
- Upper diameter: 16.3 centimeters,
- Base diameter: 4.5 centimeters,
- Weight: 875 grams.
The cup will be carefully packaged and shipped quickly in a secure manner. Local pickup and combined delivery are available. Photos are part of the description.
