Description from the seller
A very distinctive lira guitar, mainly suited to performing Baroque medieval music.
Constructed in 2004 by master Amleto Ruffilli, it is a unique, irreplaceable piece, with hand inlays in various types of wood, depicting the compass rose, set in place with the use of magnifying lenses.
Part of the family’s private collection, the instrument has a splendid sonority.
The heir and owner of the collection of violins, violas and of this lira guitar provides his own certification of the authenticity and uniqueness of this instrument.
Amleto Ruffilli’s lira guitar, built in 2004, originates from a partially modified reedition of a strange guitar that luthier Luigi Mozzani, born in Faenza (RA), made in 1869. This guitar (which no longer exists today) achieved considerable worldwide success in the era in which it was built, around 1926. Luthier Amleto Ruffilli, in his contemporary studies, learned about it in 2003, after a period of design and inspiration, and in 2004, with the sole and unique help of a photograph shown by a Romagnolo newspaper from 1991, decided to build his lira guitar with some personal modifications compared to Mozzani’s.
Amleto Ruffilli’s lira guitar is a nine-string instrument that possesses a bright, ringing, and powerful voice, typical of medieval instruments; this guitar, in order to be tested and appreciated, was used for several concerts by a musician who performs medieval music, and has performed with great success in many Italian theaters, including the Petruzzelli in Bari.
