Description from the seller
Louis CHARRAT - Gigondas – Provençal Village - 43 x 65
Louis Charrat (1903–1971)
A French painter renowned for his landscapes and villages of the South of France. His work is distinguished by an expressive graphic language and great freedom of composition, particularly in his mature watercolors.
Signed and dated watercolor from 1971 (one of the last ones he made, probably the very last).
Beautiful original watercolor depicting the village of Gigondas (Vaucluse), painted by Louis Charrat and dated 1971, the year of the artist's death.
The panoramic composition highlights the typical architecture of the Provençal village, integrated into a hilly landscape, treated with a luminous palette of blues, greens, and ochres.
The drawing is intensified by touches of black ink, lending dynamism and character to the whole.
A mature, expressive work that is typical of Louis Charrat’s late-period output.
