Tankard - Ceramic - 19th century

Umbrian mug from the Orvieto manufactory, painted in green ramina and manganese brown. Narrow base on a pedestal, oval body and trilobed mouth. In the center is painted a rampant dog surrounded by arabesques and heart-shaped leaves on a cross-hatched background. On the sides of the handle there are overlapped V motifs with the point facing upward. For prudence it is listed as 19th-century, but it is very likely late medieval. Height: 20 cm; depth: 19 cm; diameter at the body: 10.5 cm. Chips and flaking of the glaze; the handle and the front lobe have been re-glued. The photos document the object's condition.
