Description from the seller

Historicist ornamental antique cup–chalice, Central Europe (Germany/Austria) ca. 1890

We present an antique ornamental cup/chalice, dating from the late 19th century (circa 1890), entirely handmade and crafted with meticulous artisanal workmanship.

The piece features rich decoration in the historicist style, with repoussé work and manual chiseling, inspired by Renaissance models and Orientalizing ornamentation, very characteristic of Central European artistic production in the late 19th century.

They are decorated with cabochons of semi-precious stones, integrated into the original design. This type of cups was mainly used as ceremonial and ornamental objects, intended for decorating salons, associations, institutions, or representative spaces, evoking ancient ceremonial chalices, although they were not meant for official liturgical worship.

Central Europe – Austria / Germany

Late 19th century, circa 1890

• Height: approx. 27 cm
• Mouth diameter: approx. 18 cm

Good overall condition for its age, with original patina and slight signs of use and aging in keeping with the period. Piece is stable and well preserved.
