Chinese porcelain pierced rim plate in the Qing Dynasty style (ca. 1850–1900), central figural scholar scene, diameter 18.2 cm, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Chinese porcelain pierced rim plate with figural scholar scene (export ware), Qing Dynasty, 19th century Ca 1880-1900, after 18th century models
Rare Chinese export porcelain plate with openwork pierced rim, finely painted in famille rose enamels. The central scene depicts a scholar accompanied by an attendant in a garden landscape, beneath flowering trees with insects in flight. The figures wear traditional robes and hairstyles typical of 18th-century iconography, following earlier Qing dynasty models.
The pierced rim (reticulated border) is a highly decorative and technically demanding feature, rarely preserved in such fine condition. The porcelain body is thin and finely potted, reflecting the quality and refinement of earlier export wares. The painting shows careful detailing of clothing, jewellery and landscape elements, consistent with high-quality 19th-century export production inspired by 18th-century prototypes.China, Qing Dynasty

Diameter: 18.2 cm
Condition: very good condition, no cracks or restoration observed
Symbolism (short note):
The scholar and attendant in a garden symbolise learning, refinement and harmony with nature, a popular theme in Chinese literati culture.
