Bronze neoclassical hanging lamp sculpture of an eagle in flight, early 20th century France, 39 cm high, 18 cm wide, 10 cm deep, olive green patina; good used condition with signs of age and imperfections.
Description from the seller
Beautiful pendant lamp featuring a bronze eagle, made in the early 20th century in France.
This ornamental figure depicts a soaring eagle with a wingspan of 39 cm! The piece is cast in solid bronze with an olive-green patina that highlights the chiselled plumage. The sculpture represents a raptor with outstretched wings, capturing a high level of detail in the plumage and the talons that grip a central sphere, in a dynamic and expansive posture, as an allegory of power and authority over the orb or world. The bird features an open beak in a calling pose and defined eyes.
Because of its manufacturing technique and decorative style, it dates to the first half of the 20th century, within the Neoclassical period. Its structure features an upper hook for hanging. Originally integrated into a lighting fixture, this piece allows the collector to reinstall a socket and wiring for its conversion into a functional object. In a photo there is a visual reference of the set to appreciate its function; however, the lot comprises only the bronze sculpture.
Unique piece rescued from a small palace in southern France.
