Description from the seller
Asterix Collection (Ehapa), early issues 1968–1971, in very nice condition (Grade 1–2).
Ideal for collectors, nostalgic fans, or anyone who loves the adventures of the indomitable Gauls.
These ten early softcover issues come from the first publishing phase of Asterix in Germany and carry the sought-after 3-DM price variant. Especially the first two issues appeared at the time as “Great Special Issue I & II” – today real collector classics.
A piece of comic history – the making of Asterix
With Asterix, Albert Uderzo and René Goscinny created one of the world’s most successful comic series.
Uderzo, the son of an Italian violin maker, showed remarkable talent from an early age: at six he produced print-ready drawings, at fourteen he was hired by a Paris publisher – without ever having attended an art academy.
In 1951 he met the lyricist René Goscinny – a meeting that would write comic history.
Eight years later the two invented the legendary figures Asterix and Obelix – allegedly in just 15 minutes. Goscinny had all names end in -ix, as a winking homage to the Gaulish national hero Vercingetorix.
The famous knobby noses of the characters trace back to a clown who fascinated Uderzo as a child.
On December 16, 1968, the first German Asterix issue appeared at Ehapa Verlag – the start of a worldwide triumph that continues to this day.
The issues appear overall very well kept, vibrant in color and superbly preserved.
According to classic comic grading, this corresponds to Grade 1–2 (almost very good):
- minimal storage marks possible
- very good spine, no major creases
- clean paper, only light age-toning
- no distracting inscriptions or markings
- no loose pages, no major tears
For softcover issues over 50 years old, this condition is exceptional.
