Réminiscence des masques Songye, les masques Luba kifwebe sont très rares. Notre exemplaire se distingue par l’équilibre qui s’affirme au travers de ses formes : le visage sphérique s’inscrit autour de grands yeux ovoïdes, aux paupières supérieures en saillie ; les stries circulaires, alternant le bichromatisme noir et blanc, envahissent l’ensemble du masque, convergeant toutes sur l’arête nasale à l’exception de celles qui prolongent les côtés de la bouche cubique.

La rondeur de ce masque fait écho à sa fonction : évoquant l’astre lunaire, ce dernier était porté lors de rituels célébrant l’apparition de la nouvelle lune.
