Description from the seller
Historical notes
Long story behind this very endearing little man chosen by Michelin to represent it and distinguish it from its competitors, the Bidendum has undergone several aesthetic changes since it was invented in the distant year 1898 by Edouard Michelin, after which, in 1894 at the Universal and Colonial Exposition of Lyon, upon seeing a pile of tires artfully stacked, he thought, "with a couple of extra arms it would look like a little man"; this phrase was the abracadabra that gave birth precisely to the Michelin man, up to the present day still intact in its splendor and always much loved and appreciated by enthusiasts of the genre and by collectors.
This is an authentic Michelin advertising statuette/figurine that was distributed as a gadget to authorized Michelin retailers. This type of gadget was larger than the usual gadgets circulating at the time. New, never used, still in its original box. The statuette is made of resin/polyester and finely hand-painted with a beautiful glossy enamel finish. The base is covered in blue velvet fabric.
