Description from the seller

Luxurious contemporary full Moroccan binding with beautiful gilded decorations and frames on the covers and spine; the latter also features 6 ribs and an author in gold in a black box. Gilt edges. Ex libris 'Library Ragley Hall' on the front pastedown, handwritten note on the first white page dated 1760.

guard card, 1 white card, [2] unnumbered cards, 321, 1 white card, guard card

Orazio's Odes were considered by many, including the rhetor Quintilian, to be the only Latin lyric texts worthy of being read.

Beautiful work of art from 1642 that arrives to us almost intact: some browned paper, handwritten note by an ancient hand on the first blank page, and light spots here and there, consistent with the age of the specimen. Wonderful illustrated title page. Marbled endpapers, illustrated frames, and beautiful woodcut initials at the beginning of each book. Complete and very usable.
