Bronze - Nepal - Late 20th century

Elegant traditional ritual oil lamp from the Newar culture of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal.
Unlike a common incense burner, this artifact has a unique dual design: it functions simultaneously as a storage container and as a lamp for drawing off the oil.
Design: it is made of bronze. The main body (the "pot") stores the oil, while the small plate that protrudes at the front is where the wick is placed to light the flame.
Manufacturing period: 20th century: pieces from this period typically show a darker, deeper patina.
