Meissen porcelain coffee pot with lid, accompanied by a cup and saucer, turquoise ground with hand-painted gold-framed figural reserves and Rocaille scenes, estimated 1850–1900, in excellent condition with minor age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Meissen Manufactory – coffee pot with cup and saucer
19th century – porcelain, painted and gilded, turquoise background with figural reserves.
An elegant coffee set (coffee pot with lid, cup, and matching saucer) attributed to the Meissen Manufactory, dating to the early 19th century, characterized by a refined solid turquoise ground and finely contoured reserves framed in gold.
The reserves are hand-decorated with gallant scenes in rocaille taste (fêtes galantes), featuring figures in period dress set into landscapes with architectural and botanical elements: a fine, luminous painting with a strong decorative impact, designed for display pieces. The rich gold highlighting emphasizes profiles, edges, and plastic details; inside the cup runs an ornamental gold band with a continuous motif, while the coffee pot presents a graceful contoured handle and a carefully shaped spout. The lid is finished with a bud-shaped knob, in keeping with the formal tradition of the manufactory.
Marks: in the background is the mark of the blue crossed swords, attributable to Meissen (visible in the photograph).
Measures
Coffee maker: height 21.5 cm
Tazzina: height 6.4 cm
Small plate: diameter 14 cm
Provenance (documented):
Semenzato, Venice, Auction of the Art Collections of Villa Sala, Peregallo di Lesmo (Monza), 2 October 1998, lot 1180.
Condition: generally good overall condition, with normal signs of wear and use consistent with age; natural wear of the gilding is observable in some areas (particularly along the edges and protruding parts), as shown in the photographs. Any further conservation details can be verified in the high-definition images.
Note for collectors: the turquoise ground + figural reserves combination is among the most sought-after in European porcelain, for its color rendering and the overall quality of the ornament. A piece with great presence, ideal for Meissen enthusiasts and for those who prefer objects of strong display elegance.
