Description from the seller
Vintage Carved Wooden Walking Cane with Fox Head Handle – Mid 20th Century
This vintage walking cane features a carved wooden handle in the form of a fox’s head, executed in a stylised yet expressive manner. The carving highlights the ears, muzzle, and facial features, with subtle variation in tone that enhances the character of the animal.
The handle is integrally carved and smoothly transitions into a straight wooden shaft of warm brown colour. The surface shows a gentle sheen developed through age and handling, with light wear and small marks consistent with regular use. The cane retains a well-balanced and comfortable form.
The lower end of the cane is fitted with a rubber ferrule, likely a later replacement added for practical use and stability. The cane is structurally sound, with no visible cracks or repairs to the wood.
Animal-headed walking canes remained popular into the mid 20th century, often reflecting personal taste and decorative preference rather than purely formal design. The fox motif, associated with intelligence and alertness, gives this cane a distinctive and characterful appearance.
This piece will appeal to collectors of vintage walking canes, carved wooden objects, and animal-themed folk or decorative art.
