At DELALAIN, bookseller, rue de la Comedie Françoise, 1778. Small octavo. 321 pages. Cover in stiff card. Title piece (damaged). Solid work, some wear. Some foxing and marks on the bottom edge of the paper on certain pages, as visible in the photos. Some engraved music plates.
The Almanach des Muses is the most famous annual poetic anthology of the 18th century. The 1778 volume gathers a selection of poems written or published in 1777, offering a representative panorama of contemporary poetic production. It contains epistles, elegies, romances, fables and fugitive pieces, sometimes accompanied by noted music, as well as a bibliographic notice listing poetry works published the previous year.
The 1778 edition features a wide range of poets of the time, among whom are notably:
Voltaire, Dorat, Berquin, Ducis, Fontanes, Colardeau, as well as many authors who are much less known today.
