Description from the seller
Moroccan Silver-Plated Hand-Engraved Tea Caddy with Hinged Lid, Octagonal Form
Silver-plated handcrafted storage box in Moroccan tradition, distinguished by dense Arabic ornamental engraving executed by hand. The octagonal body, domed lid and applied relief elements create a balanced architectural form suitable for both functional and decorative use.
Manufacturer and origin: Moroccan craftsmanship
Year: 1950–1960s
Style and use: Traditional North African decorative metalwork; primarily used as a tea caddy for storing loose tea leaves, also suitable as a decorative box
Material: Silver-plated metal
Dimensions: Height 18 cm, Width 15 cm, Depth 14 cm
Condition:
Structurally stable with functioning hinged lid. Surface shows age-related wear, light scratches, and areas of patina consistent with use. Interior clean with visible oxidation marks. Minor plating wear visible on the underside. No structural damage observed.
Value justification:
The piece demonstrates characteristic Moroccan repoussé and chased ornamentation with symmetrical vegetal and geometric patterns, reflecting regional metalworking traditions of the mid-20th century. The octagonal construction with applied handles and ball feet enhances display presence. Hand-engraved detailing across lid and body increases craftsmanship value. The preserved original form and intact hinge support collectability within the category of North African decorative metalware from the 1950–1960s period.
