Savonarola chair in beech wood, made in Italy, estimated period 1950–1960, dimensions 68 cm wide by 50 cm deep and 92 cm high, in antique style.
Description from the seller
Elegant Savonarola chair with two knobs at the ends of the armrests, with rings, and a purple velvet cushion on the seat that adds greater elegance to the piece. Made by Florentine artisans in beech wood. Produced in the middle of the 20th century in Italy, specifically in the Tuscan region.
The Savonarola is a folding chair, closed like a book and consisting of serpentine, entwined elements and cross-shaped Xs.
The term "Savonarola" derives from the name Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), in whose era the chair of this type is said to have existed, still preserved in his cell at the convent of San Marco in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death.
In generally good condition, normal signs of wear and age (see photos), the backrest shows a seam along its length, glued, which does not impair its functionality. The chair has recently been treated with an anti-woodworm treatment.
The item will be shipped with a tracking code.
Note: for all European islands including the Canary Islands, Malta and Cyprus, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Ireland, United Kingdom, Singapore and Israel, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden, Greece, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, shipping costs will be agreed upon at the time of the lot award.
