AI says the following about this camera:
The Dallmeyer Soho (often referred to as the Soho Reflex) is a high-quality British large-format single-lens reflex camera (SLR) for large-format photography, popular in the early 20th century. It is a classic 'press camera' with a wooden body, known for its robust construction, focal-plane shutter (1/10 - 1/1000 sec), and the use of 9x12 cm or 5x4 inch plates.
Features of the Dallmeyer Soho Reflex:
Type: Single Lens Reflex (SLR) (spiegelreflex).
Construction: Usually made of mahogany wood, covered with leather.
Shutter: focal-plane shutter (curtain shutter) for high speeds.
Widely used as a 'press camera' (perscamera) due to its speed and reliability.
Design: The mirror moves along a curved path (rearward movement) when folding, enabling lenses with a shorter back focal length to be used.
Lenses: Often equipped with high-quality lenses, such as the Soho Anastigmat, Ross Express, or Cooke Aviar.
The cameras were produced by Kershaw in London and sold by Soho Ltd. They are highly sought after by collectors due to their build quality.
