Description from the seller
Jorio Vivarelli (1922–2008) – “Il sacrificio”, 1979 – Sculpture / desk card holder – Chromed brass - Fonderia Stefano Johnson, Milan
Rare sculpture/card holder realized by Jorio Vivarelli in 1979, entitled “Il sacrificio”.
The work is executed in wax casting and features an abstract and highly plastic structure, with moving metallic surfaces and material contrasts. At the center of the composition stands a golden hemispherical element, inserted within a dynamic form that evokes a blade or a movement of tension.
The sculpture bears the artist’s incised signature at the lower left and the S. Johnson signature/mark, attributable to Fonderia Stefano Johnson of Milan, at the lower right.
The piece can be considered both as an autonomous tabletop sculpture and as a refined desk card holder/functional sculpture.
The subject is linked to the monument “Il sacrificio – Una morte per la vita”, part of the Pietre dei saggi cycle, designed by Vivarelli for his hometown, Fognano, near Pistoia. The theme of the composition evokes the idea of a wound or an act of violence upon matter, from which however a vital and luminous element emerges.
Sculpture dimensions (without base): 8 x 8 cm; base 11 x 4 cm
The work is in excellent condition with minor signs of wear appropriate to age and material.
Tracked national and international shipping with express courier. Careful and professional packing.
