Description from the seller
Satsuma Japanese bowl signed Eizan (栄山) – Meiji Era – Idealized Imperial Scene – Perfect condition
Very beautiful Satsuma porcelain Japanese bowl, made in Japan at the end of the Meiji period (circa 1885–1905), richly decorated and signed Eizan (栄山).
The interior of the bowl features an idealized imperial audience scene, inspired by the Japanese imperial court of the Heian era. The composition centers a high-status figure, surrounded by two secondary figures in respectful poses, evoking a presentation or official audience scene.
Red stylized clouds, flowing gold lines and a refined palette reinforce the noble and symbolic character of the scene, without any direct official imperial representation.
The decoration is executed on a deep black background, enhanced with polychrome enamels and fine hand-applied gilding.
The ivory glaze with fine crazing, visible on the faces and the reverse, is characteristic of authentic Satsuma productions from the Meiji era.
The foliate shape of the rim highlights the interior scene and testifies to careful workshop craftsmanship.
