Vintage Japanese Lacquer Jubako – Two-Tier Wooden Box with Raised Chrysanthemum Maki-e
This is a vintage Japanese two-tier lacquered jubako (stacked food box), crafted from wood and finished in deep black lacquer with a vivid red interior. The exterior is decorated with raised maki-e style floral motifs, featuring chrysanthemum designs in gold, red, and green tones. The relief decoration adds depth and elegance, reflecting traditional Japanese lacquer craftsmanship.
The contrast between the glossy black exterior and the bright vermilion interior creates a refined and classic aesthetic typical of traditional Japanese festive ware. Such jubako were traditionally used for celebratory occasions and seasonal gatherings.
An attractive example of mid-20th century Japanese lacquerware, suitable both for practical use and as a decorative display piece.
