A lid with heraldic, knightly-inspired decoration
This remarkable brass, engraved and pierced bassinoire lid, dating from the 17th century, features a rich heraldic design centered on a fleur-de-lis shield surmounted by a knight's helmet with mantling.
Bassinoires, used between the 16th and 18th centuries, served to warm bed linens with a brazier placed inside. The lids, often richly decorated, were not only utilitarian but also reflected the social status of their owner through heraldic and symbolic motifs.

• Central shield: Adorned with fleurs-de-lis, a symbol associated with the French monarchy and certain great noble families.
• Knight’s helmet: Placed above the escutcheon, it evokes military and aristocratic heritage.
