Antique devotional altar with Madonna statue – marble & onyx – ca. 1900–1930
Description:
Beautiful and atmospheric devotional altar piece featuring a sculpture of Mary with Child (metal/iron) rendered in natural stone. The altar is built from several varieties of marble, with a green marbled back plate and base, paired with light marble/onyx pillars on either side.
The statue itself is metal/iron, beautifully detailed and in keeping with the classical Catholic devotional art from the early 20th century.
These kinds of small altars were often used as home chapels or prayer spaces, and today they are popular as decorative religious objects or collectibles.
Condition
Good vintage condition with light signs of use appropriate for the age. No visible cracks; marble has natural veins and discolorations (see photos). Everything is stable.
