Corneille's lithograph 'Vrouw en kreeft' (1992), hand-signed, limited edition 130/250, 76 x 56 cm, Netherlands origin, Cobra style, in good condition, sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
'Woman and Lobster' is a well-known work by the Dutch Cobra artist Corneille (Guillaume Corneille Beverloo, 1922–2010). The painting aligns with his characteristic style: vivid, lively colors, strong outlines and a playful, imaginative depiction. In this work Corneille combines a female figure with a lobster, an animal that occurs more often in his art as a symbol of nature, instinct and freedom. Just as in the CoBrA movement, of which he was a co-founder, spontaneity and expression are central. His work shows how he brings reality and imagination together in a colorful, energetic composition in which emotion is more important than logic.
Corneille (1922–2010) was a co-founder of the CoBrA movement and an important innovator in postwar art. His work evolved from abstract to figurative, with recurring themes such as birds, women and flowers. This colorful screen print is a nice example of his later style.
Dimensions of work without a frame: 76 x 56 cm
Viewing possible. We have our own framing workshop (85th anniversary) and work with recognized restorers (Restauratoren Nederland). Feel free to contact us via our website.
