Lanternier mark:
In 1857 François Frédéric Lanternier founded a luxury porcelain workshop. In partnership with Breuil, he acquired the Chabrol factory and began producing porcelain, which he decorated by hand in his studio.
In 1890, the business was joined by Frédéric’s son, Alfred Lanternier. Alfred gained experience working in England as a representative of Wedgewood. The company changed its name to A. Lanternier & Co. and acquired another porcelain factory in Limoges. During World War I the factory also produced porcelain dolls. After the war, A. Lanternier & Co. continued producing luxury porcelains. In 1925 they received the Grand Prize at the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes (Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes). They also produced porcelains for two design studios: Pomone (Le Bon Marché department store) and La Mestrado, the design studio of the famous Galeries Lafayette in Paris.
