Description from the seller
A well-made late 20th-century gentleman’s walking cane fitted with a sterling silver collar hallmarked for Birmingham, 1997. The silver mount bears clear British assay marks, including the lion passant confirming sterling silver standard, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the corresponding date letter for 1997.
The handle is smoothly shaped in a classic ergonomic form, offering a comfortable grip and understated elegance. The hardwood shaft is straight, well balanced and finished in a warm medium-brown tone, showing natural grain and light surface wear consistent with careful use.
The cane retains a rubber ferrule, providing stability and practicality for everyday use. Overall proportions are clean and restrained, reflecting a modern continuation of traditional British walking cane manufacture.
A refined and honest example of a late 20th-century sterling-mounted walking cane, suitable for use or for a collection documenting the continuation of British hallmarking and cane-making into the modern period.
Very good condition. Light surface wear to the silver collar and wooden handle consistent with use. The shaft remains straight and sound. Rubber ferrule present and serviceable.
