Description from the seller

A fine manuscript page from the romantic and allegorical poems of Haft Awrang (Seven Thrones), by Abd Al-Rahman Jami. The script is Persian (farsi) in black nastaliq calligraphy and was completed in 1614.

The Haft Awrang is a 15th-century collection of seven Sufi-themed masnavi poems by the Persian poet Jami, notable for its didactic narratives and romances like "Joseph and Zulaikha". Its most famous illustrated manuscript was commissioned by Prince Sultan Ibrahim Mirza in the 16th century, showcasing the luxury of Safavid art and a shift from Jami's original mystical interpretations to a more literary and aesthetic focus. It was completed in 7 books, and was itself is a reference to the seven stars that form the Big Dipper (the Plough or دب اکبر). Haft Awrang is considered a masterpiece of Persian literature, influencing later works and embodying the intellectual rigor of its author, Jami.

The manuscript is nicely decorated with fine floral Chapter headings to the upper, middle and lower part of the manuscript. The themes within this folio are the different paths of love and loves complexity, fortune, and heaven's central place in our thinking. The verse is divided by gold columns, with the whole surrounded in a gold border. This would be an attractive edition to any collection.
