Charming small Indian occasional table dating from the mid-20th century.

The top is richly carved with arabesques surrounding a representation of Buddha in the Abhaya mudra pose. The raised hand, palm facing forward and fingers together, offers through this gesture protection and calm to those who meet him. It symbolizes fearlessness and the peace that flows from enlightenment.

This very rare table is made of high-quality solid wood. It rests on three legs carved with elephant heads. The eyes are set in stone and the trunks in bone. The table is in excellent condition; only the feet may be a little loose as they rotate slightly if handled with a bit of force, but when placed on the floor it remains very stable and solid.
