Alexander McQueen - Cardigan - Vintage

Alexander McQueen FW2009 Corseted Peplum Knit Cardigan An archival sculptural knit cardigan from the Fall Winter 2009 collection, produced during the final phase of Lee Alexander McQueen's career. This piece exemplifies McQueen's mastery of anatomical engineering through knit construction. Executed in dense ribbed wool, the garment compresses the torso into a sharply defined waist before releasing into an exaggerated peplum flare - forming a silhouette that evokes both historical corsetry and biological armature. The exaggerated shawl collar frames the upper body with a protective, almost defensive posture, while the flared lower structure destabilizes the natural proportions of the human form. The garment is entirely self-supporting, with volume generated through knitting tension rather than internal structure - a technical approach characteristic of McQueen's late-period knitwear. Works from this period reflect McQueen's preoccupation with protection, transformation, and bodily distortion. Produced in Italy under the designer's direct authorship. Rare surviving example. Museum-scale knitwork.
