Roberto Sebastian Matta (Santiago, Chile, 1911 - Civitavecchia, 2002), Droites Libérées, aquatint on paper, 1971, 43.5 x 31.5 cm, dimensions of the printed area 22 x 16 cm, numbered 11/100, hand-signed on the right.
Roberto Sebastian Matta is one of the major figures of abstract expressionism and surrealism worldwide. His travels in Europe and the United States and his acquaintance with figures such as René Magritte, Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso have carried Matta's painting experience far beyond the borders of Chilean painting culture, making him an internationally prominent figure. His works are present in all major museums around the world and highly sought after by collectors.
The work in question is a rare aquatint signed in the original. The series is listed in the artist's general catalog "Matta. Catalogue raisonné de l'oeuvre gravée (1943-1974)", Visat, Paris, 1975. no. 273.
