Rare ancient statue of Kshitigarbha (Dizang) in lacquered and gilded wood.

Important statue of Buddhist devotion depicting Bodhisattva Kshitigarbha (known as Dizang in China). This piece features the typical characteristics of Qing Dynasty religious statuary (18th - 19th century).

Subject: The Bodhisattva is depicted with shaved hair, like a monk, in a meditative posture on a lotus pedestal.

Technique: Single-piece carved wood, covered with gesso, red lacquer and gold leaf gilding, of which beautiful remnants are still visible.

Dimensions: Height 42 cm.

Weight: 948 grams (dry, old wood).

Beautiful worn condition "in its original patina" with an authentic patina. Notable are losses to the gilding, natural cracks in the wood and in the lacquer due to age, which confirm its historical character.

The urna (turban/forehead mark) is well marked on the forehead. The base shows natural wear and traces of ancient tools.
