Description from the seller

Decorative container with mythological reliefs – late 19th / early 20th century

Refined container with lid made of walnut wood and metal, characterized by a central band in cast metal with continuous relief depicting mythological scenes with centaurs and moving classical figures, in a neoclassical taste.

The base and the upper edge are turned wood, while the decorative body and the lid, equipped with a shaped knob, are in a metal alloy of spelter/pewter type. The ensemble presents a harmonious balance between materials and a decoration with a strong scenographic impact.

An item attributable to European historicist production, probably France or the Austro-German area, late 19th – early 20th century. Originally intended for use as a writing desk container, an office supply box, or a tobacco vase; today appreciated as an elegant decorative element.

Style: Neoclassical / Historicist
Materials: walnut wood, metal (spelter/pewter-type alloy)
Conditions: good overall condition; normal signs of age and use, patina coherent with the age.
