Terracotta relief by Montanari from 1981, measuring 40 cm wide, 45 cm high and 5 cm deep, an original/official edition numbered 23/50, in excellent condition with rare use and light signs of wear from age.
Description from the seller
This splendid terracotta work from 1981 is a window open to the memory of the Italian peasant civilization. The bas-relief captures a moment of daily industriousness: a craftsman, whose features are deeply marked by time and by the sun, is seen while he works at his bench.
The artist, Montanari, uses a sculptural technique that plays deftly with volumes and light: the roughness of the terracotta echoes the very material of the bricks depicted in the scene, creating a tactile link between the subject and the material of the artwork.
Details that make the difference:
Atmosphere: The presence of the wheelbarrow, the stacked bricks and the bucket are not just decorative, but tell of the fatigue and dignity of the "old trades", today almost vanished.
Nature: The stylized tree on the left serves as a natural frame, giving a sense of peace and rural rootedness to the composition.
Exclusivity: The serial number 23/50 engraved on the back ensures that this is not a mass commercial object, but a limited edition destined for a few connoisseurs.
