Description from the seller

Large Antique Brass Fireplace Scuttle with Lion Mask & Wooden Handles – Victorian Period

Elegant antique fireplace scuttle made of brass, dating to the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900).

This large coal scuttle features the characteristic high pouring lip designed for practical coal handling at the fireplace. The front is decorated with a finely cast lion mask appliqué, a typical historicist decorative element of the Victorian period.

The piece retains its original wooden carrying handles as well as a ceramic lower handle with blue decoration. The construction shows traditional hand-worked metal techniques with a folded rear seam, confirming authentic 19th-century manufacture.

Originally intended for storing and pouring coal beside a fireplace, today the object is highly appreciated as a decorative interior element in country house, château and classic fireplace interiors.

A beautiful original patina has developed over time, enhancing the antique character of the piece.
