Biography: Isis Kischka (Paris, 1908-1973) is a French figurative painter.
His parents, immigrants from the Russian Empire, settled in Paris.
Isis Kischka completed part of his studies in Dreux. He endured the experience of concentration camps during World War II, near Compiègne, where he notably met the painter-artist Abraham-Joseph Berline (1894-1944). He survived internment. A dealer in men’s shirts, he developed a passion for Art.
Of expressionist inclination, he was the founding president of the Salon des peintres témoins de leur temps, of which he was the secretary-general until his death in 1973. With the help of Georges Reccio, the association took shape: he organized annual exhibitions at the Musée d'Art Moderne and at the Musée Galliera in Paris, highlighting promising artists around general themes. A posthumous tribute was paid to him in 1975, on the theme: "Comme Il Vous Plaira...", at the Orangerie in Paris.
In 2001, works from his workshop were dispersed at an auction.
The Museum of Art and History of Meudon possesses numerous drawings from the Salon des peintres témoins de leur temps that belonged to Kischka, who did not sign the majority of his works.
